Report: Israel Attacks Targets on Syria-Lebanon Border – Oil

Reports are emerging from the Middle East about an airstrike made by the Israeli air force on an arms convoy or on a base containing long range missiles, around the border between Syria and Lebanon. Details are still missing. Israel refuses to respond so far.

In the meantime, WTI Crude Oil is on the rise, trading above $98, in a new 4 month high.

The attack could have been on a convoy bringing Syrian arms to Lebanese based Hezbollah. The Syrian state is a dysfunctional state for quite some time. The civil war is raging since March 2011.

In Israel and in the West, there is growing fear that Syria’s chemical weapons could fall into the wrong hands. The Israeli cabinet had a special session last week, in the middle of the election campaign, to discuss Syria’s chemical weapons.

In addition, Israel deployed “Iron Dome” batteries in the north of the country, due to heightened tension on the northern border with Lebanon.

Prior to the report about the strike, Lebanon said that 4 Israeli warplanes penetrated Lebanese territory on Tuesday afternoon and patrolled the skies for around 5 hours.
