US/AMERICAS:Moody’s warning on the massive US debt burden has had little impact on the markets, with investors already aware of the $33.7tn US debt and the $1.7tn deficit in fiscal 2023. The warning from Moody’s merely echoes these well-known issues. Despite the warning, Moody’s is the only one of the big-three agencies that still has a triple-A rating on US debt. The agency lowered its ratings outlook on Treasuries, citing high levels of government debt and deficits coupled with political brinkmanship in Washington that could jeopardize the global standing of government-issued fixed income. However, the markets shrugged off the warning, with analysts saying that Moody’s has no proprietary information that nobody knows about the US government.US Market Closings:
