The average mid cap score is 59.54 and the average score over the past four weeks is 58.96. The average mid cap stock in our universe is trading -20.05% below its 52 week high, 5.54% above its 200 dma, has 6.89 days to cover held short, and is expected to grow EPS by 16.8% in the coming year.

The strongest scoring mid cap sectors are utilities and basic materials. Consumer goods, technology, and industrial goods also score above average. Services, financials, and healthcare score below average. Stay industry and stock specific in those baskets.

The best mid cap industry is oil & gas equipment & services (PDS, HLX, RES). Packaging & containers (MINI, TUP, BMS), synthetics (POL, CMP, AXLL), technical & system software (MENT, CDNS), and specialty chemicals (NEU) also score strong.

The strongest baskets in basics are oil & gas equipment & services, synthetics, and specialty chemicals. Packaging & containers, textiles (DECK, CRI, COLM), and auto parts (TEN, FDML, GNTX) are best in consumer goods. Accident & health insurance (AIZ, AFL) and REITs (TCO, LXP, CLI) score above average in financials. The best healthcare industries are medical instruments (NUVA, HRC, TFX, PKI) and healthcare plans (CNC, WCG). Industrial electrical (AOS, BDC), diversified machinery (ATU, MIDD, NDSN), and residential construction (KBH) offer upside in industrial goods. Buy business services (RBA, GPN, HMSY), trucking (KNX, ODFL), and movies (DWA, RGC) in services. Retail offers a better entry later in Q3 and again in early Q4. In technology, concentrate your attention on technical & system software, application software (LOCK, MANH), and business software (WBMD, PEGA, SSNC). Gas utilities (EGN, NJR) are also OK.
